Opening Day in The Books
Leamington Raceway’s 2026 harness racing season kicked off in record-setting fashion on Sunday, Aug. 9, with YS Delight highlighting the 10-race Opening Day card.
YS Delight captured the featured $6,800 conditioned optional claiming pace in 1:55.3, setting a new track record for older pacing stallions. Mark MacDonell guided the nine-year-old pacer to the victory for owner/trainer Garry MacDonald.
Defending leading trainer Cameron McQueen also enjoyed a strong start to the season, scoring a training triple with Thunderbolt Run, Grand Circuit and Livin Large. Nick Steward drove all three McQueen winners as part of a four-win afternoon to lead all drivers on Opening Day.
Leamington Raceway’s 2026 season continues every Sunday through Oct. 25, with post time at 1 p.m.
